Glycolic Acid

Glycolic acid is perhaps the best-known of a group of chemicals called fruit acids or alpha-hydroxy acids (AHA). It is derived from sugar cane, so it can be considered a natural product. Glycolic acid is generally used as a natural skin exfoliant and moisturizer. Glycolic acid works as an exfoliating agent because of its high acidity but easy solubility. When placed on the skin as part of an exfoliating cream or gel, glycolic acid goes under the damaged upper layers of skin and destroys the 'glue' which holds dead skin to the surface. As this dead skin is chemically burned off, the other ingredients carry the individual flakes away and a water rinse neutralizes the remaining acid. The result is a much-smoother skin surface and a more youthful appearance.

Retin-A

Retin-A is the trade name for retinoic acid. The topical form of this synthetic derivative of vitamin A is not to be confused with vitamin A which is taken by mouth. When Retin A is applied to the skin it penetrates to the deeper layers of the dermis. The following changes are seen: There is an increased activity of the basal cells which causes an increase in their number and improvement in their shape and organization. This leads to a thicker, more level skin surface with less wrinkling. With this increase in new cell production there is less clumping of old cells on the skin's surface, this further improving the texture and smoothness of the skin.

Latisse (bimatoprost opthomolic solution) is the first FDA approved topical treatment designed to help sparse, thin or irregular lashes grow in longer, fuller and darker. The active ingredient in Latisse, bimatoprost, is used in prescription eye drops to treat glaucoma and doctors discovered that patients using these drops were enjoying an amazing side effect: longer, fuller, darker lashes.
